PHOENIX, Ariz. --
Arizona community leaders and government officials enjoyed the opportunity to go for a spin in an advanced piece of military equipment prior to the official commencement of Marine Week Phoenix.
The community leaders flew in an MV-22B Osprey in a route around the Valley of the Sun, Sept. 9, 2015. The flight demonstration was held to showcase the air capabilities of the Marine Air Ground Task Force, highlighting the aerial technologies that the Marine Corps employs in operations around the globe.
Before the flight, Marines in charge of flight operations delivered a brief at the Papago Army National Guard Military Reservation on the relevance of the Osprey in today’s conflicts.
“When I was in the briefing, I was just amazed,” said Sonny Borrelli, a member of the Arizona House of Representatives and a retired Marine gunnery sergeant. “I was extremely impressed with this aircraft. It replaces the helicopter and it increases our previous warfighting capabilities in terms of speed, range, and maneuverability.”
The passengers were taken for a flight in the Osprey as a teaser for events and demonstrations to follow during Marine Week Phoenix.
“Marines are going to do what they do best and I’m looking forward to hearing all of the positive comments from the people of Phoenix in the days to come,” said Borrelli. “As a retired Marine, I know all about Marines and what it’s like to be one, and the motivation and professionalism levels here are off the charts. I just can’t put it into words.”
Marine Week Phoenix is a major celebration of community, country and Corps, giving us the opportunity to connect with the people of Phoenix, Marines, sailors and veterans. It also allows us to showcase and sustain our standing as America’s Expeditionary Force in Readiness.
