Master Sgt. William 'Spanky' Gibson, force fires chief, Multi National Force - West, and holds his daughter Lauren after being awarded the Purple Heart at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Md., june 9, 2006. Gibson, an above-the-knee amputee from Pryor, Okla., was recently selected as one of three Marine Corps staff non-commissioned officers for the first ever Marine staff NCO Congressional Fellowship. Gibson lost his left after being shot by a sniper in Ramadi, Iraq, May, 2006. He was serving as a joint termina attack controller for 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company.
