U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Karsten Heckl, I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), receives the COVID-19 vaccine at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton Jan. 15, 2021. Vaccines are being administered in a phased approach, prioritizing health care workers and first responders, as well as mission critical and deploying personnel. Vaccination distribution prioritization within DoD, and the Marine Corps, are consistent with data-driven CDC guidance for national prioritization. The vaccine is voluntary, and I MEF Marines are receiving it in order to keep the Corps mission ready and lethal. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Timothy Fowler)
