I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group re-designates to win future wars
28 Jun 2017

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. –I Marine Expeditionary Force will soon make history to better fight and win wars waged in the rapidly developing information domain.  July 6th will mark the re-designation and restructuring of the I MEF Headquarters Group to the I MEF Information Group. This transition is one that will take place across the Marine Corps, and I MEF is the first to implement the change.

I MIG is being re-designated to support the Commandant’s priorities of modernizing the force and improving readiness against a near-peer competitor through a "whole-of-MAGTF" approach to information warfare. The commander of the MIG will be responsible to provide the MEF commanding general with a comprehensive understanding of the information environment, which includes the threat environment, command and control network health, status and vulnerabilities, the electromagnetic spectrum, cyberspace, environmental factors, cognitive and social factors, as well as further elements that may affect our ability to compete with near-peer adversaries.

Simultaneously on July 6th, I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group Commanding Officer, Col. Bobbi Shea, will turn over command of over 1,200 Marines and their equipment to Col. Dawn Alonso. Col. Shea has been integral in preparing the MHG to re-designate as the MIG. She has served for 2 years as the commanding officer and has been selected to Brigadier General. As such, she will be one of only two active duty female generals. Col. Shea is being meritoriously awarded the Legion of Merit for her leadership at I MHG. She plans to be available after the ceremony to answer questions on the re-designation and her time as commander of MHG.

The bios of Col. Shea and Col. Alonso and further information on the MIG will be available upon request.
The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Camp Pendleton. If you are interested in attending the re-designation ceremony and change of command, please RSVP by 12 p.m., June 29th to 2ndLt Mallory Martinez at mallory.shelton@usmc.mil.
