Commanding Officer, 1st Radio Battalion
Lt. Col. David A. Serrano

LtCol Serrano graduated from Coastal Carolina University in December 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and was commissioned through the Officer Candidate Course in December 2009. He reported to The Basic School in January 2010 and was assigned the Ground Intelligence Officer (0203) MOS.

From January 2010 to April 2014, LtCol Serrano served with 3d Battalion, 12th Marines in Okinawa, Japan, as the Battalion Intelligence Officer and Executive Officer, Headquarters Battery. In November 2012, he deployed to Afghanistan with Company A, 1st Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group, U.S. Army, serving as the Special Forces Company Intelligence Officer in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In April 2014, he joined Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion (MCSB), Fort Meade, Maryland, as a fellow in the Junior Officer Cryptologic Career Program (JOCCP). During this assignment, he deployed as a Signals Intelligence Detachment Officer-in-Charge in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel (Afghanistan) and Operation Inherent Resolve (Iraq).

In July 2017, LtCol Serrano reported to 1st Radio Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as Assistant Operations Officer and Company Commander. In August 2019, he was assigned to the U.S. Naval Academy as a Master Instructor in Cyber Science and Marine Corps Cyber Lead.

In July 2022, he attended Marine Corps University as a student at the Command and Staff College. In June 2023, he was assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, serving as Intelligence Officer and Executive Officer to the O-6 MAGTF Headquarters. He deployed to the Indo-Pacific with Marine Rotational Force–Southeast Asia (MRF-SEA), conducting operations and engagements in the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Brunei.

In August 2025, LtCol Serrano reported to III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group in Okinawa, Japan, to serve as the Operations Officer.

LtCol Serrano holds a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University and a Master of Military Studies from Marine Corps University.

His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
