Sergeant Major Guzman enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1998 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California. After completing recruit training, he went through Marine Combat Training and then reported to Camp Johnson, Camp Lejeune, for the Defense Basic Preservation and Packing Course, graduating in April 1999.
In May 1999, Private First Class Guzman transferred to the Material Readiness Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group in Okinawa, Japan. During his time with the 3rd Force Service Support Group, he held several positions, including Administrative Chief of the Supply Company, Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Wooden Fabrication Section, and Platoon Sergeant for the Preservation, Packaging, and Packing Section.
In July 2005, Sergeant Guzman reported to Drill Instructor School at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. He was assigned to Company K of the 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, where he served as both a Drill Instructor and a Senior Drill Instructor. In November 2007, he transferred to Company M, taking on the role of Chief Drill Instructor.
In September 2008, Staff Sergeant Guzman reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 15 (CLR-15) at Camp Pendleton, California. During this assignment, he supported Combat Logistics Battalion 7, Headquarters and Service Company, in Twenty-Nine Palms, California. He served as the Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (SNCOIC) of the Preservation, Packaging, and Packing Section and deployed to Iraq from February to September 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After returning to CLR-15, he deployed to Afghanistan from September 2010 to April 2011, again serving as SNCOIC for the Preservation, Packaging, and Packing Section in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In May 2011, Staff Sergeant Guzman reported to Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia, where he served as a Sergeant Instructor for Companies K and I. In August 2011, he was assigned to the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of California, Berkeley, as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor. In May 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Guzman returned to Officer Candidate School, Company G, where he served as a Sergeant Instructor in support of the 1st Increment.
In August 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Guzman joined Supply Company, 3rd Supply Battalion, where he served as the Receiving SNCOIC for the Preservation, Packaging, and Packaging Section and as Company Gunnery Sergeant. From January 2016 to July 2017, he held the position of Company First Sergeant with 7th Communication Battalion. From August 2017 to November 2019, he held the position of Detachment First Sergeant for Bravo and Headquarters Detachments, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38.
In November 2019, Sergeant Major Guzman was promoted to his current rank and reported to Recruiting Station Sacramento, where he served as the Recruiting Station Sergeant Major. Upon completing this tour, he reported to 1st Maintenance Battalion in July 2022, serving as the battalion's Sergeant Major. In May 2024, he reported to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit until November 2025.
Sergeant Major Guzman's personal awards include the (3) Meritorious Service Medal, (3) Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and (3) Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
