Deputy Commanding General, I Marine Expeditionary Force
Brigadier General Michael R. Nakonieczny

Brigadier General Nakonieczny is a native of Buena Park, California and is the son of a Marine. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Davis and was commissioned through the Platoon Leaders Course.

His operational assignments include serving as Platoon Commander, 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion (15th MEU); Company Commander, Weapons Company, 1st LAR Battalion; Company Commander, Alpha Company, 3rd LAR Battalion (Operation IRAQI FREEDOM II-2, 5-7); Executive Officer, First Battalion, First Marines (13th MEU); Director, First Marine Division Schools; Commanding Officer, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division; Commanding Officer, 1st LAR Battalion; and Commanding Officer, 31st MEU.

His staff and joint assignments include serving as Executive Officer, Company H, Marine Security Guard Battalion; Company Commander, Light Armored Vehicle Training Company, School of Infantry West; Deputy Director, J3 Afghanistan, USSOCOM; Director, Concepts and Plans, Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory; Military Assistant to the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps; and Military Secretary to the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Brigadier General Nakonieczny graduated with honors from The Basic School and the U.S. Army Armor Captains Career Course. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and was the recipient of the Joint Service Planner Award from the Marine Corps War College.
