Master Gunnery Sergeant Bryan J. Calderon

Master Gunnery Sergeant Calderon was raised in Everett, Washington. He graduated from Henry M. Jackson High School in 2002. He went on to graduate from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in October 2002. After completing the School of Infantry West, in February 2003, he was assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion 1st Marine Regiment MCB Camp Pendleton, California.

Private First Class Calderon was attached to Bravo Company 1st Battalion 1st Marine Regiment from February 2003 through March 2004. In 2003, he participated in Operation Sweeney aboard the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in Umm Qasr, Iraq.

In 2004, Lance Corporal Calderon was selected for the Scout Sniper Platoon within 1st Battalion 1st Marine Regiment. Lance Corporal Calderon performed duties as a Point Man and Assistant Team Leader. In 2004, he deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Unified Assistance in Indonesia.

Corporal Calderon deployed again with the Scout Sniper Platoon from November 2005 through June 2006 with Regimental Combat Team 5 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 5-7 in Al-Karmah, Iraq. He was promoted to Sergeant in June of 2006.

In July 2006, Sergeant Calderon was assigned to 1st Marine Regiment Headquarters Company for duty as a water survival instructor until March of 2007. In May 2007, Sergeant Calderon graduated from the Basic Reconnaissance Course and reported to Delta Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion MCB Camp Pendleton, California. He assumed duties as an Assistant Team Leader and Team Leader.

In May of 2010, Staff Sergeant Calderon assumed duties as a Team Leader for 3rd Platoon, Force Reconnaissance Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. Subsequently, in 2010 he deployed to Trek Nawa and Sangin, Afghanistan until December 2010. Shortly after the deployment to Afghanistan, Staff Sergeant Calderon reported to III MEF Special Operations Training Group in Okinawa, Japan during May 2011. He served as the lead instructor for both the Urban Sniper Course and Reconnaissance & Surveillance Course until May 2014. Gunnery Sergeant Calderon went on to serve as the Chief Instructor for Special Missions Branch until January 2015.

Gunnery Sergeant Calderon reported to Marine Corps Augmentation & Training Support Unit (MCATSU) on MCB Quantico, VA in January of 2015 for duty as the Training Chief for all Marines serving in external billets. During this period Gunnery Sergeant Calderon successfully completed Assessment and Selection for an external billet.

In December of 2018, Master Sergeant Calderon reported to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion MCB Camp Pendleton, California and assumed the duties as Force Reconnaissance Company Operations Chief. After three years as the Operations Chief, Master Calderon was appointed as the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion Commander’s liaison to I MEF Information Group to support activities within INDOPACOM. Master Sergeant Calderon was promoted to Master Gunnery Sergeant and transferred to I MEF Expeditionary Operations Training Group to serve as the Senior Enlisted Advisor in January 2024.  

Master Gunnery Sergeant Calderon’s decorations include the three Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medals with Combat Distinguishing Device, Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon with Gold Star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with on silver and bronze star, NATO Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and seven Good Conduct Medals.

Bryan is married to the former Kassandra Koci of Fremont, Nebraska. Together they have three children: Vanessa (13), Lydia (10), and Ruby (5).
