Lieutenant Colonel Mabel B. Gutierrez was born in La Paz, Bolivia, and raised in Miami, Florida. In 2001, she enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving at Marine Security Guard Battalion in Quantico, Virginia, and Marine Corps Forces Korea in Seoul, Korea. Following her enlistment, she graduated from the University of Arizona in 2007 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.
As a Manpower Officer, her operational and staff assignments include serving as the Adjutant and Legal Officer for Combat Logistics Regiment 27, the Adjutant for 2d Marine Logistics Group (MLG), the Staff Secretary for 2d MLG (Forward) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, concurrent assignments as the Adjutant for Instructor Battalion and The Basic School, and the G-1 Manpower Officer for 1st Marine Division.
As an MAGTF Planner, she served as the lead planner on the Vandergrift Team, Headquarters Marine Corps, Deputy Commandant for Information. During this tour, she made a lateral move into the intelligence occupational field and graduated as the distinguished graduate of the MAGTF Intelligence Officer Course. In 2022, she was assigned to the 1st Radio Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), as the Operations Officer. In 2023, she was assigned to the I MEF Information Group, where she served as the Executive Officer. In 2024, she assumed command of the 1st Radio Battalion in Camp Pendleton, CA, where she is currently serving.
Lieutenant Colonel Gutierrez is a graduate of the Marine Expeditionary Warfare School, a distinguished graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the School of Advanced Warfighting. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and two Master of Arts degrees in Military Studies and Operational Studies.
