Command Senior Enlisted Leader, I Marine Expeditionary Force
SERGEANT MAJOR RODNEY E. NEVINGER

Sergeant Major Nevinger assumed his current post as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) for I Marine Expeditionary Force on 2 July 2025.

Sergeant Major Nevinger enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on April 4, 1998 from Killeen, Texas. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, and completed military occupational training at Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West earning the 0311, Rifleman military occupational specialty.

Sergeant Major Nevinger’s assignments in the Fleet Marine Force include: rifleman and platoon sergeant, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines (September 1998 - December 2002); and platoon sergeant and company gunnery sergeant, 2d Battalion, 1st Marines (April 2006 - May 2010).

His assignments as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader (USEL) and Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) include: 3d Law Enforcement Battalion (October 2013 - July 2016); USEL and CSEL, 3d Marine Raider Battalion (July 2016 - March 2018); CSEL, Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing (March 2018 - December 2019); CSEL, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 264 (December 2019 - July 2020); CSEL, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 (July 2020 - July 2021); CSEL, 3d Marine Regiment and 3d Marine Littoral Regiment (July 2021 - January 2023); and CSEL, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing (February 2023 - June 2025).

Sergeant Major Nevinger’s deployments include: 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (West Pacific), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (WestPac / TF-58), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (UDP - Okinawa), and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 9-2.

Sergeant Major Nevinger’s tours of duty in the supporting establishment include: drill instructor and senior drill instructor, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego (September 2002 - April 2006); and Assistant Marine Officer Instructor, The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina (May 2010 - October 2013).

Sergeant Major Nevinger is PME complete and has also attended the Slated Enlisted Leader’s Orientation Course (2023), Keystone 24-1, and Leading for Organizational Impact through the Executive Education Program (2024)."
