U.S. Marines and Sailors with Combat Logistics Battalion 7, 1st Marine Logistics Group, relieved 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, during a transfer of authority ceremony at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, April 15, 2026. The rotational unit will serve as Task Force Forge, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB) to provide engineering and logistical support to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). JTF-SB is tasked with executing agile, full-scale and partner-focused missions in support of the Department of Homeland Security’s southern border mission.

Both battalions are elements of I Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California and Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twenty-Nine Palms, California. As a combat logistics battalion, CLB-7 provides Task Force Forge with robust logistical and engineering capabilities, including heavy equipment operation for mobility and barrier reinforcement.

“Task Force Forge is proud to have successfully reinforced our nation's southern border by emplacing over 65,000 meters of wire obstacles, and clearing over 80,000 square meters of vegetation,” said Lt. Col. Tyrone Barrion, the outgoing commanding officer of Task Force Forge. “We have made tangible improvements to the security of our homeland and are confident that the incoming Task Force Forge will continue the great legacy of this vital mission.”

"Task Force Forge stands ready to uphold our nation's security and safeguard its borders with unwavering dedication and professionalism,” said Lt. Col. Gregory Lynch, the incoming commanding officer of Task Force Forge. "We will maintain strategic control over the southern border in our area of operations, ensuring collaboration with our interagency partners while continuing the progress made by those who served before us."
