The lights from the hangar bay of the future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) shine brightly during a reception at Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Aug. 7, 2014. The reception was hosted by the Sailors and Marines of America and Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force South for Brazilian diplomats and military officials. The evening of food, music and dancing concluded with speeches from Rear Adm. Frank L. Ponds, commander of Expeditionary Strike Group 3 and The Honorable Liliana Ayalde, U.S. Ambassador to Brazil. America is currently on her maiden transit, “America Visits the Americas”. The transit is a clear example of our Nation’s commitment to our regional partners and allies, demonstrating the Navy-Marine Corps integration in action. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by 1st Lt.
