Fast roping prepares Marines for rapid ship-to-shore deployment (Interview - Hotsko)
2nd Lt. Andrew K. Hotsko, platoon commander, Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, from Panama City, Pa., discusses fast roping during training at Camp Pendleton, Oct. 9, 2013. Fast roping is a technique that troops use to enter an area from a helicopter by descending from a rope. It enables Marines to quickly reach an area without landing an aircraft. Hotsko also discusses the strategic value of fast roping and how it is tactically employed. The battalion is schedule to deploy next spring with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in Okinawa, Japan.
