Marines with 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, participate in a ceremony honoring the legacy of the French fourragere award aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Nov. 22, 2016. The French fourragere is a military award given to units as a whole for meritorious acts of conduct in action. The heroic acts of valor made the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments the only two units of the American Expeditionary Force to receive the fourragere. Marines display the award with a green and red braided rope with a spike on the end worn around the left shoulder of the service alpha uniform. Marines with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, take part in a live-fire unknown distance training course aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Nov. 3, 2016. The course is a portion of the pre-scout sniper program that prepares Marines for the scout sniper school. The unknown distance range teaches Marines the skills needed to determine the distance to a target without the use of a range finder or other similar tools and instead relies on the Marine using his scope and observation telescopes.
