Multinational servicemembers, veterans, leaders of Solomon Islands’ government, members of the diplomatic community, and civilians, attend the 82nd Anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal Ceremony at the Guadalcanal American Memorial in Honiara, Solomon Islands, Aug. 7, 2024. The ceremony commemorated the 82nd anniversary of the battle, and served to honor the fallen and strengthen the U.S. relationship with the Solomon Islands and other Pacific allies and partners. U.S. Marines travel to Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands August 6-11, 2017. Ceremonies were held at battle memorial sites to commemorate the 75th Anniversary for the Battle of Guadalcanal. The Allied forces lost more than 7,100 lives fighting bravely for their countries in this Pacific campaign. In attendance with the Marines was Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Robert B. Neller, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Ronald L. Green, Maj. Gen. Eric M. Smith, the 1st Marine Division commanding general, and Sgt. Maj. William T.
