Marine Week Phoenix kicks off with a ceremony at Civic Space Park in downtown Phoenix. The event included performances by the Silent Drill Platoon, Marine Band San Diego and martial arts instructors from the Marine Corps's Martial Arts Center of Excellence.

U.S. Marines with Company B, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, Marine Rotational Force - Darwin, teach their Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and Combat Life Saving Course to troops from His Majesty's Armed Forces, the New Zealand Defense Force, the French Army of New Caledonia and the Tongan Royal Guards Aug. 31 at Talai Military Camp, Tongatapu Island, Tonga. Company B is part of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force that is composed of aviation, ground and logistics combat elements creating the MRF-D. The rotational deployment in Darwin enables Marines to more effectively train, exercise and operate with their partners, enhancing regional security and building a capacity to respond more rapidly to natural disasters and crises throughout the region. U.S. Marines with Kilo Company, Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, conduct a short-range marksmanship qualification course aboard the dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47). Marines grappled for two minutes prior to going through the course of fire to simulate firing under stress and fatigue, which can occur in combat. The marksmanship course refined Marines combat marksmanship skills and incorporated the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, which reinforces the warrior ethos instilled in them. The 15th MEU is embarked on the Essex Amphibious Ready Group and deployed to maintain regional security in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Sgt.
