PACIFIC OCEAN -- U.S. Marines with Koa Moana 16-4 participate in a range aboard the USNS Pililaau (T-AKR 304) Sept. 17, 2016. The Marines participated in the range to prepare for joint operations with partner nations abroad. The Koa Moana exercise seeks to enhance senior military leader engagements between allied and partner nations in the Pacific with a collective interest in military-to-military relations and to discuss key aspects of military operations, capability development and interoperability in the South Pacific. The Career Orientation and Training of Midshipmen take current college students and futures officers to Camp Pendleton to show them how the Marine Corps operates and also its capabilities. The main objective is to teach midshipmen what it takes to be an officers in the Navy or Marine Corps.

Midshipmen learn hand and arm signals, squad formations, and M-9 service pistol marksmanship as part of the Core Training of Midshipmen program, also known as CORTRAMID, at Camp Pendleton, May 31, 2016. The training provides a small taste of the experience, skills and knowledge that it takes to be a Marine or Naval officer.
