U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Colby Melendez, an infantry motormen with 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, shares his story while attending Los Angeles Fleet Week from Aug. 31 - Sept. 3, 2018. Melendez is a Los Angeles native and participates in the fleet week by sharing his experiences in the Marines Corps and what it feels like to give back to the community. Los Angeles Fleet Week provides an opportunity for the Marine Corps and Navy to demonstrate the quality of personnel to the citizens of Los Angeles and surrounding areas. U.S. Marines and Sailors with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force - Native Fury 18 execute Exercise Native Fury in the United Arab Emirates, Jan. 21-Feb 9. Exercise NF18 is a Joint Chiefs of Staff directed, U.S. Central Command sponsored, I Marine Expeditionary Force executed maritime prepositioning force exercise conducted in the Marine Corps Forces Central Command area of responsibility. Native Fury is designed to train Marines and Sailors in crisis response through MPF operations and aims to increase proficiency, expand levels of cooperation, enhance maritime capabilities, and promote long-term regional stability and interoperability between international partners. Marines with Battery G, 2nd Batallion, 11th Marine Regiment fire Howitzer M777A2 cannons aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., July 10, 2015, to improve readiness for upcoming deployments. The Howitzer is capable of accurately firing 155 mm rounds at targets up to 18.9 miles away.

Marines with 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment conducted organic fire support for maneuvering units during Exercise Steel Knight 15 aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif., Dec. 12-16 2014. Steel Knight is an annual exercise that allows 1st Marine Division to test and refine its command and control capabilities by acting as the headquarters element for forward-deployed Marine Air Ground Task Forces.
