Exercise Iron Fist 2016: U.S. Marines, JGSDF Coordinate and Intergrate Naval Gunfire, Artillery, Mortars and Close-Air Support During SACCEX
U.S. Marines and Japanese soldiers with the Western Army Infantry Regiment, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, conducted a supporting arms coordination center exercise (SACCEX), on San Clemente Island, Feb. 22-23 as part of Exercise Iron Fist 2016. U.S. Marines with 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company and Japanese soldiers with the WAIR, JGSDF, provided indirect fire support in coordination with 81mm mortar platoons and artillery from 1st battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, close-air support and naval gun fire from the USS Spruance (DDG 111).
