U.S. Marines with Tank Platoon, Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, participate in Exercise Alligator Dagger in Djibouti, Africa, Dec. 6-22. This exercise enabled the tank platoon to conduct multiple firing ranges, practice tank formations, and perform annual maintenance. This exercise provided an opportunity for the three ships of the Makin-Island Amphibious Ready Group/11th MEU to come together and conduct amphibious training within the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. Gunnery Sgt. Robert B. Brown Jr. directed this video and provided supplemental videography. Lance Cpl. Zachery Laning edited and provided the bulk of the videography.

U.S. Marines and Sailors with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit participate in Exercise Alligator Dagger in Djibouti, Africa, Dec. 6-22, 2016. The unilateral exercise provided an opportunity for the Makin-Island Amphibious Ready Group and the 11th MEU to train in amphibious operations and combat sustainment training ashore in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. The 11th MEU is currently supporting U.S. 5th Fleet's mission to promote and maintain stability and security in the region.

Hard Corps Jobs: Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsmen are highly-trained corpsmen who serve in the Marine Corps force reconnaissance community. SARCs provide reconnaissance teams and other units advanced trauma management associated with combatant diving medicine, parachute entry and combat trauma. SARCs regularly act as point men, sharpshooters, radio operators and team leaders in recon teams and platoons.

Sgt. Brandt Kinder, an Avionics Technician, with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, takes values he's learned from being a Marine and applies them as a role model for the next generation of BMX riders. Steel Knight 2017 is a two-week, division-level, exercise in California and Arizona that is currently underway. Marines and Sailors with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command were greeted by family and friends as they returned to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton from a nine-month deployment to the middle east.

Maxine Russell, an Orange County resident, has been sending care packages to Marines overseas and on deployment for nearly thirty years in remembrance of her deceased son, Darren "White Rabbit" Russell. TRINCOMALEE, Sri Lanka (Nov. 22-25, 2016) Marines and Sailors of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, embarked aboard the USS Somerset (LPD 25), participated in a Theater Security Cooperation exchange, training side-by-side with the recently inaugurated Sri Lankan Marine Corps Nov. 22-25 at Sri Lanka Naval Base, Trincomalee.

Maritime Raid Force Marines with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct training with the Sri Lankan Navy Special Boat Squadron Sailors during a Theater Security Cooperation event at Sri Lanka Naval Base, Trincomalee, Nov. 24, 2016. This bilateral training allows the two militaries to share tactics and procedures that help build and maintain military readiness, and increase humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness. U.S Marines and Sailors with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group/11th Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct Exercise Tiger Strike 2016 in the Sabah Province, Malaysia, Nov. 9-13, 2016. TS16 was the third iteration of the bilateral training exercise held between Malaysian and U.S.'s armed forces, which included training in: jungle survival, Marine Corps Martial Arts, non-lethal weapons, helicopter loading and offloading, combat service support, medical exchanges, and small boat operations.

Today, 1st Marine Division is a multi-role, expeditionary ground combat force. The Division is employed as the ground combat element (GCE) of I MEF or may provide task-organized forces for assault operations and such operations as may be directed. The 1st Marine Division must be able to provide the ground amphibious forcible entry capability to the naval expeditionary force (NEF) and to conduct subsequent land operations in any operational environment.

Around the MEF for Nov. 4, 2016 Marines with I Marine Expeditionary Force completed a combat life saver course to become confident first responders. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit conducted amphibious sustainment training on Oahu and the island of Hawaii, Oct. 19-23, after departing Naval Base San Diego, Oct. 14, for a scheduled deployment to the U.S. 3rd, 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility. The sustainment training allowed the Navy-Marine Corps team to sharpen the skills they learned during a six-month pre-deployment cycle, and included planning and execution of ship-to-shore operations, a company-sized helo-borne raid, combat marksmanship, fire support operations, and simulated convoy operations.

Colin Bell, a business owner in Oceanside, Calif., describes his story after began his business. He uses his skills he gained as a non-commissioned officer in the Marine Corps to effectively run his business.

13th MEU Combat Camera, Camp Pendleton (October 6, 2016) - WestPac-16 deployment February 2016 to September 2016. The 13th MEU deployed to 5th and 7th fleet area of operations providing close air support to Iraqi security forces and the coalition fighting ISIL in Operation Inherent Resolve. The Fighting 13th supported the UAE-led coalition fighting Al Qaeda in Mukalla, Yemen. The Fighting 13th participated in multinational training exercises SSang Yong in South Korea and Eager Lion in Jordan. The Fighting 13th participated in theater security cooperation engagements with military counterparts in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company conducts military operations and casualty evacuation drills aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Sept. 1, 2016. The training involved assaulting simulated targets and extracting casualties via two Navy MH-60R Seahawks.

Marines with 1st Reconnaissance Battalion execute combat marksmanship program at Camp Pendleton from Aug. 29 to Sep. 1, 2016. Experienced Marines from the Battalion maintained and improved their shooting skills and the new members of the unit learned basic skills through the CMP shooting.
