U.S. Marines with Marine Rotational Force-Southeast Asia, I Marine Expeditionary Force, attended a jungle survival training hosted by Philippine Marines with 65th Force Reconnaissance Company, 3rd Marine Brigade, Philippine Marine Corps, during KAMNDAG 7 in Iwahig, Palawan, Philippines, Nov. 14, 2023. MRF-SEA Marines learned a wide range of topics to surviving in a jungle environment including edible plants, shelters, and animal traps. KAMANDAG is an annual Philippine Marine Corps and U.S. Marine Corps-led exercise aimed at improving bilateral readiness and mutual capabilities in the advancement of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific. This year marks the seventh iteration of this exercise and includes participants from Japan, the Republic of Korea, and observers from the United Kingdom. MRF-SEA is a Marine Corps Forces Pacific operational model that involves exchanges with subject matter experts, promotes security goals with Allies and Partners, and positions I MEF forces west of the International Date Line. U.S. Marines with Marine Rotational Force-Southeast Asia, I Marine Expeditionary Force, U.S. Navy Sailors with Command Squadron 7, U.S. 7th Fleet and members from the Armed Forces of the Philippines conduct a force protection subject matter expert exchange during Exercise Sama Sama 2023 on Fort Bonifacio in Manila, Luzon, Philippines, Oct. 3-4, 2023. The U.S. service members conducted a practical application of the force protection subject matter expert exchange to teach Department of the Navy regulations on use of force, escalation of force, personnel and vehicle searches and mechanical advantage control hold techniques. Sama Sama is a multilateral exercise including forces from the Philippines, United States, Australia, France, Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom designed to promote regional security cooperation, enhance maritime interoperability, and maintain and strengthen maritime partnerships.
