Sparks was raised in Baton Rouge, La., by a family with generations of military service. He chose to continue his family’s legacy during 2007 when he became a Marine. Sparks deployed in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in Okinawa, Japan, and was an instructor at the Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, Calif., prior to his current combat deployment.
