SgtMaj Yomen J. English Sergeant Major, 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company

In November 1991, he graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.  He completed Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California and subsequently completed Motor Vehicle Operators Course at Camp Pendleton California in May 1992.

In June 1992, Private First Class English reported to 3d Reconnaissance Battalion, 3d Marine Division, Okinawa, for duty as a Vehicle Operator.  In January 1993, Lance Corporal English was transferred to Reconnaissance Company, 4th Marine Regiment, for duty as a Motor Vehicle Operator.  


In June 1993 Lance Corporal English reported to Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 2d Marine Division.

During this period, he served as a Truck Team Leader, and Section Leader.  In June 1996 Corporal English transferred to Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for duty as an Instructor. In August 1996 he was promoted to Sergeant, and assigned as a Student Platoon Commander.

In January 2000 Sergeant English reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.  After graduating in April 2000, Staff Sergeant English reported for duty with Company B, First Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, and Parris Island, South Carolina, where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor.

In August 2003 Staff Sergeant English reported to 3d Transportation Support Battalion, 3d Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, for duty as a Motor Transport Chief and Platoon Sergeant. In December 2003 Staff Sergeant English reported to Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Service Support Group 31 for duty as Detachment Chief.Participating in exercises throughout the Pacific, eventually sailing to the Arabian Gulf in order to participate in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 02. In October 2005, Gunnery Sergeant English reported to the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Okinawa, for duty as a Faculty Adviser and Chief Instructor. 

In August 2006, Gunnery Sergeant English transferred to Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Quantico, Virginia, serving as a Faculty Adviser, Chief Instructor and Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge.  Gunnery Sergeant English served as a Sergeant Instructor at Officer Candidate School during the summer of 2007.

In March of 2009 First Sergeant English served as the First Sergeant of Company “B”, Officer Candidate School, Quantico, Virginia, until transferring to 3d Battalion 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California.  From August 2009 to February 2014, First Sergeant English served as a Company First Sergeant for Company “I”, Weapons Company, and Headquarters and Service Company; Deploying to Sangin District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 10-02, and with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit inside the Central Command Area of Responsibility (AOR).

From March 2014 to February 2017, Sergeant Major English served as the Sergeant Major of Recruiting Station Baltimore, 1st Marine Corps District, Marine Corps Recruiting Command.

In February 2017 Sergeant Major English transferred to 2d Battalion 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton serving as the Battalion Sergeant Major until his current assignment as the Sergeant Major of First Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO).

His personal decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with “V” and three gold stars, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star and the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star.
