Commanding Officer, I MEF Support Battalion
Lt. Col. John Shim

Lieutenant Colonel Shim received his commission as a Second Lieutenant after completing the Platoon Leaders Course program in June 2006 and subsequently reported to The Basic School and Logistics Officers Course. Following completion of the Logistics Officers Course in April 2007, Second Lieutenant Shim was assigned as the Maintenance Management and Ordnance Officer for 1st Battalion, 3d Marines and subsequently deployed to Haditha, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. In August 2008, serving as the assistant Logistics Officer, 1stLt Lieutenant Shim deployed to Karma, Iraq and again in November 2009 to the Nawa district in Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In July 2010, Captain Shim reported to the First Marine Corps District in Garden City, Long Island where he served as the Base Operations Officer and assistant Logistics Officer. Following this assignment, Captain Shim reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 5 in August 2013 as the Motor Transport Company Commander. In September 2014, Captain Shim deployed as the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command (SPMAGTF-CR-CC) Logistics Combat Element (LCE) Operations and Executive Officer to Al Jaber, Kuwait. In December 2014, Captain Shim forward deployed to Al Asad Air Base as the Sustainment Team OIC with Task Force Al Asad in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Upon redeployment, Captain Shim served as the Headquarters and Service Company Commander for CLB-5 until his selection for the United States Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in Fort Leavenworth, KS in June
2016.

Upon graduating CGSC, Major Shim was assigned to United States Forces Korea J43 as a Joint Sustainment Planner in June 2017. In February 2018, Major Shim was reassigned as the Executive Assistant to the USFK J4 and served in this capacity until June 2018, when he was reassigned as the Combined Joint Logistics Planner in the J45.

In June 2019, Major Shim received orders to 1st Maintenance Battalion and served as the Executive Officer until February 2020 when he was reassigned as the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit Command Element S4. In October 2020, he deployed with the 15th MEU/Makin Island Amphibious Readiness Group Western Pacific 21-1 deployment supporting operations in multiple geographic combatant commands. Returning from deployment in May 2021, Major Shim was reassigned as the I MEF G4 Expeditionary Operations Planner.

Lieutenant Colonel Shim served with units that were awarded the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, and Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation.
